  • Job Description

    PURPOSE OF POSITION: Perform cleaning duties in the Housekeeping and Laundry Linen Services Departments to ensure sanitary, orderly, and attractive conditions in the hospital. 

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Receive daily cleaning assignments.  Follow cleaning schedules and procedures (daily, weekly, monthly) as outlined for the department.

    Perform various cleaning tasks at all hospital campus areas including surgical unit, such as dusting; mopping floors; emptying trash containers; wash walls, windows, screens, and blinds.  Clean bathrooms and replenish supplies as needed.

    Operate electrical cleaning equipment in a safe manner, e.g. vacuum, carpet shampooer, burnisher, etc.

    Inspect areas for cleanliness and sanitary conditions and correct as necessary.  Report any observed repair needs.

    Wash, dry, sort, fold, and dispense hospital linen.

    Requisition necessary cleaning and toiletry supplies.  Stock cleaning supplies, linen, garbage bags, toiletry supplies, etc. in appropriate locations.

    Move biological and hazardous waste to appropriate storage unit.

    Maintain cooperative working relationship with hospital staff, patients, other organizations, and the public to provide quality customer service in a courteous manner.

    Maintain work areas in a clean, orderly and secure manner.

    Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas.

     

  • Requirements

    MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: General knowledge of methods, materials, equipment and solutions used in housekeeping; and, safe usage, care and maintenance of cleaning equipment and supplies.  Equivalent to a high school education, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES: None.

    DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS: Previous work or volunteer experience performing institutional housekeeping tasks.
