Facility Services Supervisor
Full Time
Salary Range: $24.84-$33.37
Purpose of Position: To ensure cost efficient and effective delivery of physical plant services to all departments and buildings owned by the Hospital District. To maintain the District-owned facilities in a safe, sanitary, attractive, and orderly condition in compliance with all regulatory standards and hospital policies. To supervise the Facility Services staff.
Essential Job Functions:
Organize, document and direct the proper preventative and corrective maintenance of all building structures, electrical, mechanical and emergency systems in hospital facilities by implementing the effective, efficient use of labor and materials. Keep up to date on the physical plant equipment needs to maintain operational efficiency of the equipment. Review all manufacturer recommendations and assure compliance with recommended maintenance, product usage and any recalls or changes. Manage facilities and grounds maintenance contracts.
Responsible for hospital safety, life safety, and the corrective and preventive maintenance programs involving the hospital physical plant and buildings, general maintenance, medical equipment repair, biomedical electronics, grounds, and construction projects.
Supervise, schedule, and assign personnel to provide 24/7 facility maintenance services for the District. Review staffing needs on a regular basis. Interview and select applicants for vacant positions to maintain a high standard of service.
Accurately complete information related to employees in a timely manner, e.g. performance appraisals, new employee orientation check lists, corrective actions, time records, etc. Review work, evaluate performance, competency and proficiency, and respond to employee problems and complaints. Ensure provisions of adequate staff training as needs are identified.
Coach and counsel employees as needed. Recommend and administer corrective action, as appropriate, in collaboration with the Human Resources Manager.
Conduct monthly staff meetings and coordinate department activities with other hospital departments. Participate in monthly leadership, safety committee meetings and quality management meetings or other meetings as scheduled. Use RPM reporting system to keep staff informed and focused on Hospital goals.
Perform various duties of Facility Services personnel. Serves in the call rotation of the facility services staff.
Review policies annually and develop or re-write policies as dictated by manufacturer standards, fire marshal regulations, OSHA or other regulatory board. Assure hospital and appropriate department policies and procedures are followed.
Develop and maintain a Facility Services department disaster plan. Coordinate the duties of facility services personnel for emergency response during mass casualty, incoming air ambulance and internal disasters.
Model and assure professionalism and excellent customer service standards for assigned areas.
Prepare recommendations for annual budget. Review budget for variances and report as needed.
Maintain cooperative working relationship with hospital staff, patients, other organizations, and the public to provide quality customer service in a courteous manner.
Maintain work areas in a clean, orderly and secure manner.
Ensure all safety rules and procedures are followed for work areas.
Job Qualification Requirements:
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Knowledge of building maintenance, general maintenance and repair methods, blueprint reading, and safe operation of related equipment.
  2. A working knowledge of building management, mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration and/or building control management equipment and systems.
  3. Arithmetic to include decimals and fractions and recordkeeping practices. Must be knowledgeable in the use of computer applications including MS Word and Excel.
  4. Excellent written, verbal and public communication skills.
  5. General knowledge of supervisory practices based on previous supervisory experience.
  6. Must be able to handle stress resulting from heavy, varied, and inconsistent workload.
  7. Equivalent to a high school education and over ten (10) years of similar experience, three of which were in management, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES: Possession of valid driver’s license.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS: College degree or coursework related to engineering, electrical, HVAC or management. Previous experience in a hospital maintenance environment. Knowledge of principles and practices of federal, state, and local law, code and regulations applicable to the work environment and regulations applicable to safe work practices/procedures. Knowledge of JCAHO standards, OSHA, state and local codes normally associated with hospitals.
