Information Technology Specialist (IT)
Full Time
Salary Range: $27.58 - $37.07
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Maintain and improve the hospital physical and logical network capabilities. Perform system monitoring and preventive maintenance related to software, hardware, databases, server resources, networks and systems. Perform minor repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications. Maintain computers and other technologies such as telephones, printers and fax machines. Coordinate the maintenance of computers and computer networks within the organization.
Responsible for the efficient operation of the hospital’s computer networks. Minimize downtime to provide access to the system on a 24/7 basis.
Perform system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing systems and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Provide training to hospital staff on basic functions of hardware and software.
Provide technical support for the integration of the hospital information system with the network.
Modify and customize commercial programs for internal needs.
Answer users' inquiries regarding computer software and hardware operation to resolve problems.
Maintain record of daily data communication transactions, problems and remedial action taken, and installation activities.
Confer with the staff to setup EMR access (security, template, reports, and badge). Ensure that the proper access has been granted and works correctly.
Confer with staff, users, and management to establish requirements for new systems or modifications.
Set up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cable, operating systems, and appropriate software.
Read technical manuals, confer with users, and conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems and to provide technical assistance and support.
Working with IT providers/vendors such as internet, phone, phone systems, printers, cabling etc. to troubleshoot issues and complete project tasks.
Create and maintain appropriate archiving systems that are cost-effective and secure.
Maintain computer hardware and peripherals in efficient operating order. Repair and recover from hardware and software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted areas.
Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
Cross train department staff to provide backup during vacations, etc.
Maintain work areas in a clean, orderly and secure manner.
Maintain cooperative working relationship with hospital staff, patients, other organizations, and the public to provide quality customer service in a courteous manner.
Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: Thorough knowledge of network administration and maintenance methods and practices. Knowledge of appropriate network skills and personal computer, server and peripheral equipment maintenance practices. Equivalent to high school plus additional specialized training in computer science equal to two (2) years of college and over three (3) years related experience, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of and experience with UNIX operating systems and Exchange servers.
