Salary Range: $13.95 - $18.75
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Prepare patients for examinations, retrieve and update patient records and under the supervision of the medical provider assist in care of the patient.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Review daily schedule assure paperwork needed is prepared and completed for each patient. Ensure medical and lab reports are available for the provider to review with the patient.
Provide direct patient service by checking in patients, assisting patients in the exam room, recording vitals and updating medical histories and medication records.
Assist medical provider during the patient examination and with special procedures, minor surgeries or other exams as directed.
Under the direction and supervision of the medical provider and per competency or licensure qualifications, provide direct patient care such as, but not limited to, injections, immunizations, internal labs, catheter changes, ear irrigations, suture removal, dressing changes, and basic wound care.
Set up sterile trays and prepare rooms for procedures. Assist in sterilizing equipment and instruments and disposal of contaminated items.
Monitor immunization records for adults and children to assure compliance with recommended immunization schedules. Report immunizations per State of Oregon reporting guidelines.
Submit electronic charges for all nursing services performed at the provider’s direction.
Communicate frequently with other care providers, pharmacies, and agencies on behalf of the patient to assure timely continuity of patient care.
Under the direction of the medical provider, follow up with patients to communicate test results or care instructions. Monitor and respond to patient requests via the patient portal.
Clean and straighten exam rooms daily and between patient visits. Assure exam rooms are properly stocked with needed supplies.
Maintain cooperative working relationship with clinic staff, patients, other organizations, and the public to provide quality customer service in a courteous manner.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of medical office procedures and methods, including general knowledge of medications and drug classifications. General knowledge of English, grammar, spelling, data entry and retrieval, and computer applications software. General knowledge of mathematics, medical terminology and health. General knowledge of confidentiality concepts and requirements. Ability to communicate effectively with the healthcare professionals, public, customers, and staff. Equivalent to a high school education and six (6) months of related experience, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES: None.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS: CMA/CCMA Certification or a minimum of 3 years medical office experience providing direct patient care. Experience working in an orthopedic practice.
