PURPOSE OF POSITION: Prepare patients for examinations, retrieve and update patient records and under the supervision of the medical provider assist in care of the patient.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Mohs procedure is used in an outpatient facility to surgically remove high risk skin cancers. Willing to train to help assist in the procedure.
Review daily schedule assure paperwork needed is prepared and completed for each patient. Ensure medical records, pathology, and lab reports are available for the provider to review with the patient.
Provide direct patient service by checking in patients, assisting patients in the exam room, recording vitals and updating medical histories and medication records.
Assist medical provider during the patient examination and with special procedures, minor surgeries or other exams as directed.
Under the direction and supervision of the medical provider and per competency or licensure qualifications, provide direct patient care such as, but not limited to, injections, immunizations, internal labs, catheter changes, ear irrigations, suture removal, dressing changes, and basic wound care.
Set up sterile trays and prepare rooms for procedures. Assist in sterilizing equipment and instruments and disposal of contaminated items.
Submit electronic charges for all MA services performed at the provider’s direction.
Communicate frequently with other care providers, pharmacies, and agencies on behalf of the patient to assure timely continuity of patient care.
Under the direction of the medical provider, follow up with patients to communicate test results or care instructions. Monitor and respond to patient requests via the patient portal.
Clean and straighten exam rooms daily and between patient visits. Assure exam rooms are properly stocked with needed supplies.
Maintain cooperative working relationship with clinic staff, patients, other organizations, and the public to provide quality customer service in a courteous manner.
Maintain work areas in a clean, orderly and secure manner.
Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: 1 year experience working in direct patient care. CCMA Certification must be obtain within 1 year of hire. Prove to be able to work in a fast paced environment. Excellent communication skills are mandatory to be able to work effectively with the specialist, public, customers, and staff.
Knowledge of medical field, including knowledge of medications and drug classifications. Advanced knowledge of English, grammar, spelling, data entry and retrieval, and computer applications software. Knowledge of mathematics, medical terminology and health. Advanced knowledge of confidentiality concepts and requirements. Equivalent to a high school education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES: None.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS: CCMA Certification or obtained in 1 year and minimum of 3 years medical experience providing direct patient care. Experience working in an orthopedic, surgical, or dermatology practice. Experience with Mohs surgeries. Working in EPIC a plus.
