PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Provide inpatient, outpatient and emergency room support for the imaging department. Under the direction of a radiologist, will be responsible for performing variety of technical procedures applying prescribed ionizing radiation for radiographic examinations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Instruct and assist patients and perform radiologic examinations in a timely, diagnostic and professional manner. Follow established exam protocols as per policy and procedure manual. Follow Radiation Safety and Shielding policies, maintaining ALARA guidelines. Under the direction of a radiologist, inject contrast material. Ensure that appropriate consents are filled out and signed by the patient.
Enter all necessary information in the DR/PACS system to complete the procedure.
Assist in maintaining appropriate supply levels and reports supply shortages to Radiology coordinator or manager
Complete all necessary paperwork for any equipment malfunctions/problems, incidents or “near misses”.
Perform basic troubleshooting and appropriate maintenance on equipment.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment at all times.
Instruct and/or provide information to patients regarding examination preparation. Assist with exam scheduling and patient questions as necessary. Assist in obtaining pre-authorizations from insurance companies as needed.
Collects information and participates in hospital quality assurance activities.
Make recommendations to improve service or efficiency of the department/organization (i.e., changes in protocol, patient preparation, scheduling, equipment needs, etc.)
Depending on licensure, perform Mammography, CT, MRI, Dexascans, X-Rays and Ultrasound examinations in accordance with department policies, procedures and protocols.
Maintain cooperative working relationship with hospital staff, patients, other organizations, and the public to provide quality customer service in a courteous, professional manner.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: Broad knowledge of radiology principles, practices and techniques. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology sufficient to pinpoint area for procedure and identify findings, and basic nursing skills and universal precautions. Knowledge of recordkeeping practices and computer applications software. Completion of a certified Radiology training program and one (1) year of experience, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties.
Required LICENSES: Possession of current ARRT and OBMI Certification; must also be willing to obtain a CT certification.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS: Possession of ARRT certificates in Mammography, MRI, and ARDMS certificate in Ultrasound.
